Wig, topper, system—or not sure yet.

Can you help if I do not know what I need?

Yes. Deciding between a wig, topper, mesh integration or hair system is one of the main reasons to begin with a consultation. Sarah considers the coverage needed, your remaining hair, lifestyle, timeframe and the level of ongoing care that feels realistic.

What is the difference between ready-made, customised and fully bespoke?

Ready-made pieces are finished wigs from established makers, colour-matched and personalised at the atelier. Customised pieces begin with a quality base that is re-worked to your hairline, density and colour. Fully bespoke pieces are built to your measurements from the foundation upwards.

What is the difference between a wig, a topper and a hair system?

A wig is a full piece worn over your own hair. A topper is a partial piece worn over the crown and blended with remaining hair. A hair system is a base fitted over a defined area and maintained on a regular schedule.

Will a piece look natural?

A natural result comes from the combined choices of hairline, density, colour, parting, base construction and fit. Ready-made and customised pieces are personalised in-house; fully bespoke pieces allow those details to be drafted to your measurements.

Ready-made or bespoke—which should I choose?

It depends on timeframe, fit, hairline, the level of personalisation required and budget. The consultation is where those trade-offs become clear, with no pressure to choose the most complex route.

Can you work with a piece I already own?

Often, yes. Styling, adjustment, cleaning guidance, repair and restoration may be possible for pieces made elsewhere. Send a short enquiry first so Sarah can advise whether the piece needs to be seen in person.

What the first visit feels like.

What happens at the first appointment?

The appointment begins with a conversation about what has changed and what matters to you. Sarah looks at your hair and scalp from a fitting perspective, discusses suitable routes, and explains pricing and next steps. This is cosmetic hair care, not medical diagnosis or treatment.

How is privacy handled?

Appointments are held one-to-one at the atelier. You will not be introduced or photographed, and nothing you share is used for marketing without your consent.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes. A partner, parent, friend or member of your medical team is welcome at an appointment.

How long is a consultation, and what does it cost?

A consultation is one hour and costs £120. It is held with Sarah at the Matlock atelier, by appointment.

Do I have to decide on the day?

No. The purpose of the consultation is to leave with clarity: a recommendation, the relevant options and transparent pricing. You can take time before deciding whether to proceed.

What should I bring?

Bring any current piece you would like Sarah to assess and, if helpful, photographs of how you normally wear your hair. Medical records are not required. If you have a clinical question, speak with your GP, consultant or specialist nurse.

Support at your pace.

Do you support people during chemotherapy, alopecia or other hair loss?

Yes. The atelier works with people experiencing treatment-related hair loss, alopecia, pattern loss and longer-term change. The service is cosmetic hair care and can sit alongside support from your medical team.

Do you diagnose or treat hair-loss conditions?

No. Sarah’s work covers cosmetic hair replacement, fitting, personalisation and aftercare. For diagnosis, treatment or prognosis, speak with a GP, consultant, dermatologist or specialist nurse.

Do you work with children and young people?

Yes. Children and young people are seen at their own pace, with a parent or guardian present throughout. You are welcome to contact the atelier first, without your child present, to discuss what an appointment might feel like.

Who does the atelier work with?

Sarah works with women, men and children seeking help with medical hair loss, alopecia, pattern loss, thinning and other long-term changes. Begin with a short enquiry if you are unsure whether the service fits your circumstances.

Practical details.

How are prices for pieces set?

Pricing depends on the route, base construction, fibre or hair, length and finishing work required. The relevant costs are explained before you decide whether to proceed.

What happens after I collect a piece?

Aftercare may include fitting adjustments, styling, cleaning guidance, maintenance, restoration and repair. The right schedule depends on the piece and how it is worn.

Where is the atelier?

First Floor, 6–8 Bank Road, Matlock, Derbyshire, DE4 3AQ, United Kingdom. Visits are by appointment only.

How do I begin?

Use the general enquiry form and share a few lines about what brings you here. Sarah will reply personally. Do not include detailed medical records or payment information in the form.

You do not need to know which piece or service is right before getting in touch.
